Vote TODAY!

The General Election takes place on Tuesday, November 4th.

Who may vote in the Election?

Anyone who is registered to vote. You must be a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, and live in Maine. Check to see if you're registered by contacting your local municipal election official.

How do I register to vote?

You can register to vote on or before Election Day in person at your town clerk's or municipal registrar's office. For more information, or to view a voter registration card, go to the Secretary of State's Maine Voter Guide.

Can I vote before November 4th?

Yes, you can stop in at your town hall today and vote in person.
This is essentially voting by absentee ballot in person. The ballots are available now, so you can stop in at your municipal clerk's office during business hours and fill out an absentee ballot in person and hand it back to the clerk. You will not need to fill out an application if voting early in person.

Can't make it to your town hall? Have your ballot mailed to you.
Contact the municipal clerk in the town or city where you are registered to vote.
You can make a telephone request for your own ballot, which will be mailed to the address you provide to the clerk. You can also make a written request by completing an absentee ballot application. Applications are available from the municipal clerk or online

In some locations, you can send an online request for a ballot, and one will be mailed to you. This is called the "Absentee Ballot Request Service." You will have to return the ballot either by mail or in person -- you can't email it back! Find out if your town is on the list.

Important note: If you're voting by mail, your absentee ballot must arrive at your town hall no later than 8:00 PM on Election Day. Otherwise, it won't be counted.

Help a family member vote by absentee ballot.
You can obtain a ballot for an immediate family member in the same way as outlined above. A ballot will be mailed to the voter directly or to the immediate family member making the request. (Your municipal clerk can tell you who is considered immediate family under the law.)

NOTE: Ballots obtained by the voter or an immediate family member do not require witnesses, unless the voter receives assistance from another person in reading or marking the ballot.

Locate your municipal clerk.

Of course, you can always vote in person on November 4th, Election Day, but why wait?
